The Blues unbeaten run which started on 19 September came to an end Saturday where The Blues went down 3-5 at the feet of St Josephs.
The run started after The Blues had a poor start to the campaign winning only a single point in their first four games despite playing well, by the middle of September The Blues luck started to change.
A 1-1 draw versus Clwb Cymric after losing 'Keeper Stephen Jones and left back Richard Price in the first half was the start, the following week a 4-5 thriller finally got The Blues their first win of the season, Gwaelod-Y-Garth were the next victims in another close game which ended 3-2 in The Blues favor. Llanrumney Utd 2nds followed with a comfortable 5-0 victory after Llanrumney lost a defender to a dislocated shoulder, back to the league and The Blues picked up where they left off and strolled to an 11-4 win at home to a struggling Cardiff Bay Harlequins team in a game which saw striker Michael Jones make a scoring comback with a second half hat-trick , the toughest game of the run came away to Glyncoed Corries where for much of the game The Blues were defending, although Corries had much of the ball they failed to trouble Blues 'Keeper Jones, Blues broke the deadlock with some nice route one football finished off by winger Stuart Patten and wrapped the game up on 80 minutes with a superb headed goal from skipper Hywel Lewis.
The Blues have been in training for the 2009/10 season for a few weeks now and everything is going well with the team enjoying getting back to the football after their summer breaks, The Blues have once again been active in the transfer market bringing in new right back Luke Jones as a replacement for Craig Brooks, Luke will give The Blues more attacking options down the right as we hope to utilise his pace and crossing ability, Another new signing comes in the form of Rick (the battler) Thomas a tough defensive midfielder, The Blues are hoping that Rick and Paul Jones can forge a good defensive midfield partnership to free up our more attacking players, More players deals are being finalised including the contract of Richard Price who is singing on a free, more news to come soon
After a disappointing 2008/09 season Whitchurch Blues F.C have started pre-season training, The Blues still missing a few players in the first session most notably Michael Jones still suffering from his back injury which kept him sidelined for the whole of last season and Thomas Fry who is still on loan in australia and is due back in january.
Whitchurch Blues defender Lawrence Porch has today announced that he is leaving The Blues with immediate effect citing personal reasons.
Porch instrumental in the Blues success in the last few seasons will be sorely missed and we wish him luck in his future
Blues left-back currently on loan at Melbourne University Thomas Fry has sent a message wishing the team luck throughout the coming season, Fry said in an interview with whitchurchbluesfc.webs.com "good luck lads if this season ever gets underway, UP THE BLUES!".
The Blues also wish Tom all the luck he needs in the coming season with his loan club and hope to have him back fit and ready as soon as possibe.
Blues striker Michael Jones has started his rehabilitation for his back injury, the injury which has kept Jones out of pre-season has been the only major c
oncern for the blues.
When asked about his rehabilitation Jones said "I would like to be fit to face The Villa but i'm not going to rush back and end up making my back worse and end up being out for longer"
Club doctors say Jones is weeks off making his comeback but are pleased with Jones attitude during his recovery
